The Thankful Song
Rick Allen

Mia clapped her hands as Mama sang, “Thank you for the sunshine, thank you for the trees!”

Mia giggled. “Can I try?”

Mama nodded, and Mia twirled around.

“Thank you for my teddy bear. Thank you for my cheese!” she sang loudly, making Mama laugh.

Mia added new things to her “thank you” song each morning. Her cat, her roller skates, her crayons, and even rainy days were included.

One day, at the store, she burst into song: “Thank you for my apples and yummy treats!” The cashier chuckled. Mama smiled proudly. “Gratitude is music to the heart and soul.”

Everyday Thankfulness

Mia’s playful song teaches kids that gratitude can be fun and spontaneous, encouraging them to find joy in simple things.

Discussion Starters for Parents and Kids

  • What are three things you feel thankful for today?
  • How does saying “thank you” make you and others feel?
  • Can you make up your own family gratitude song?
  • Why is it good to notice small blessings like rain or apples?

Take-Home Idea

Start a “Morning Gratitude Song.” Each day, sing or chant three new things you’re thankful for. It’s a fun ritual that builds a lifelong habit of appreciation.
