Maya Builds Again
Rick Allen

Maya’s block tower wobbled.

She reached for the last piece   Crash!  It fell and scattered in every direction.  Her eyes filled with tears.

“I worked so hard,” she whispered.

Miss Tara knelt beside her. “Want to try again?”

Maya sniffled. “What if it falls again?”

“Then we’ll try again, together,” Miss Tara said.

Maya nodded.  She stacked one block, then two.  Her hands shook, but she kept going.

When the last piece stayed, she grinned. “It’s even taller!”  Miss Tara clapped.  Resilience isn’t about never falling.  It’s about standing back up… even if your hands are still a little shaky.

Bouncing Back After Disappointment

This story helps children see that failure is just part of learning and that courage grows each time we try again.

Discussion Starters for Parents and Kids

  •  How did Maya feel when her tower fell?
  •  Why was it brave to start building again?
  • Can you remember a time when you tried again after something went wrong?
  •  How does resilience help us in school, sports, or friendships?

 Take-Home Idea

Create a “Bounce-Back Board.” Each time your child overcomes a setback—big or small—add a sticker or note to celebrate their resilience.
