Frog Friends Make Peace
Rick Allen

Two young frogs, Charley and Buster, were embroiled in a dispute over which lily pad they would claim as their own.

The local Sheriff, a very big frog, hopped over to mediate between these two young friends.

“What seems to be the matter, boys?” The Sheriff said.

Charley said, “I saw that lily pad first, and Buster thinks it’s his.”

The Sheriff said, “Let me ask you, what difference does it make? Now, let me ask another question: is your friendship or where you sit more important?”

Finally, Buster said, “Friendship is more important than things.” His friend Charley agreed.

Friendship Over Possessions

This story teaches children that relationships are more valuable than arguing over “stuff.”

Discussion Starters for Parents and Kids

  • Why did the Sheriff ask which was more important—friendship or the lily pad?
  •  How did Charley and Buster solve their disagreement?
  • Can you remember a time when you chose a friend’s feelings over getting your own way?
  • How can we practice fairness at home or school?
