Ella Holds the Door
Rick Allen
At school, Ella loved to be first in line.
But today, she saw Noah struggling with his backpack.
He dropped it twice trying to open the door.
Everyone else rushed past him.
Ella stopped. “I’ll hold it,” she said, grabbing the heavy door with both hands.
Noah smiled and stepped inside. “Thank you, Ella,” he whispered. Ella didn’t get to be first that day.
But when Miss Tara saw what happened, she said, “That was kind, Ella. Really kind.” Ella’s heart felt bigger somehow.
Sometimes kindness is just stopping long enough to see someone… and helping in the smallest way.
